Answer : – In Anton Chekhov’s play ‘The Proposal’, Chubukov was one the main characters. His full name was Stepan Stepanovitch Chubukov. He was 70 years old. He was a wealthy land owner. He was described as a loving, sensible and also caring feather of his daughter, Natalia. She was already 25 years old. Chubukov was worried about her marriage. So,he accepted the marriage proposal of his neighbour, Lomov for Natalya readily. He felt elated. He also asked Lomov to get married to Natalya without any further delay. He congratulated both. As a sensible father Chubukov took his daughter’s stand during the dispute with Lomov. He proved himself as a possessive landlord and also sensible father. After the dispute he called Lomov back only to fulfil Natalya’s wish. He also called his daughter as ‘Love – sick cat’
Thus, Chubukov proved himself as a sensible father of Natalya in this play.
